Ever wanted to make a presentation that can branch to different slides, depending on where the mouse is clicked?

Welcome to Walker, a presentation tool for your slideshow needs.

What is it?

Walker is a slideshow program with a twist. Ever wanted to make a presentation that can branch to different slides, depending on where the mouse is clicked?

Or a simple way to create a walkthrough of a place with your digitial camera?

Welcome to Walker, a presentation tool for your slideshow needs.

Examples where Walker can be used:
  • You want to present a building or place online with simple, yet effective means?
Walk through a building or place, taking pictures along the way, going into all the rooms. Transfer the images to your PC, link them with 'Walker' and either present it on the PC or export it to HTML and publish it on the Web where your friends or clients can get a very good impression of the place your presenting.
  • You went on really nice trip  (14-days europe trip, for example) and took many images. Now you'd like to link them together from a main page either publish to the web or create a CDROM as an album.
  • You're opening a shop and want to show your potential clients around before the grand opening.
  • You already own a shop and want to easily present your shop on your website.
  • You sell cars or other items? Take pictures with your digital camera and link them, allowing a clients to open doors, go inside, and look at the car from different angles on the web.
  • Inviting for a exhibition and want to give some preview goodies ?
Walker development will be user-driven. We need your feedback for this. Please let us know any suggestions for features that you would like to see in the program.

Features

  • Fast, easy to navigate interface, unbounded and unlimited.
  • Currently supports JPG, PNG and BMP.
  • Automatic creation of thumbnails so the interface doesn't slow down with those BIG slideshows.
  • Automatic layout tool. Automatically arranges the images so that the links on the screen are as short as possible.
  • Layout tools (alignment, snap to grid, etc.)
  • Add attributes (including custom ones) to each slide individually or to all slides in a project.
  • Export to HTML through a template (which has access to all the attributes).
  • Fullscreen slideshow mode.
  • Unlimited Undo/Redo.

The Interface
sshotstart.gif

The slides that you work with in Walker are displayed in the main view (the workspace) of the program. The workspace, which can extend beyond the screen in all directions, is where you'll arrange all your individual slides and define the connections (Links) between them.

You can move the slides around on the workspace and are not confined to certain positions.
The viewport (which is your 'window' into the workspace) can be sized (zoomed) and moved (panned) around very easily, simply by pressing a key and dragging with the mouse.

Linking Slides

Here we have zoomed the workspace into one slide and have selected it. As you can see the slide has two hot areas (granted, difficult to see in the small version, click on it to see the full size screenshot), one of which is currently highlighted and ready to be moved. The green arrow also indicates to which slide we will be branching from the highlighted area. A simple double-click on the area will take us to the target slide.

There are also four other slides that can arrive at this slide, as shown by the four lines with arrows on the ends.
Projects

Here we have loaded a larger project. It represents a walk-through of an vacation apartment building. There are many points at which you can choose where to walk. The two loops at the top, for example, are a walk around the pool, one circle for each direction. Using Walker this took about 15 minutes to setup (not counting the photography, of course!). It consists of 75 images with 100 links.

Plans for a future Version

Future features will be decided by the feedback we get from you, the users. Please let us know of any enhancements you would like to see in this product.

That said, there are a number of things that we're planning on adding to the next version:
  • Recording mode for the slideshow so that you can define a standalone, selfrunning show that takes the path you previously recorded.
  • Playing sounds at each slide.
  • A standalone slideshow player.
  • The ability to associate certain cursors (including custom ones) with the hotspots of a slide.
  • Transition effects between slides
  • areas where special feedback can be given to the user (sound, text, popup etc.)
  • CDROM-friendly setup
  • Ability to group slides and arrange these in a hierarchy.

Even if the enhancement you're thinking of, or that you'd like to see, is on the list, please let us know (with the form above) so that we can get an idea of how important certain features are to you.
